3 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Website

Updated: Mar 1

Many people often ask us if their business "really needs" a website if they already post regularly on social media outlets. The answer to that question is YES! Yes. Yes. Yes. A Million times, yes! I understand that the time it takes to design a website and the money it may cost to do so may seem like a headache at first. But a website is an investment into the future of your business’ success and if you keep reading, I'll tell you why.

1. RELIABILITY

First off, why do you need a website if you already have Facebook and Instagram? Well, social media pages are not one hundred percent reliable when used for a business platform. I remember working with a client who solely used Facebook to take orders for her products. On October 4th, 2021 Facebook was unexpectedly down for most of the day, due to infrastructure issues. As a result, she was unable to access all of her orders and therefore unable to work on the products that she had stored in her messages, or contact her customers. She called me the next day and asked me to build her a website.

We also cannot control the changes made on the layout/design of social media, as well as the ever-changing popularity among the online social community. For instance… does anyone remember MySpace? Or Vine? I am not saying that Facebook and Instagram are going to disappear into thin air, but the point is, you cannot control what happens on platforms that you don't own. The algorithms among social media sites are constantly changing, which is great for many reasons, but there is no security in completely relying on it as your business platform.

2. BRANDING

Another major reason why businesses need more than social media pages is that a website is a reflection of a business’s brand. The colors, copy, photos, layout, fonts, blog posts… all of these factors can aid in building content that distinguishes YOUR brand. I cannot stress enough how important branding is. Social media cannot speak for a business's brand entirely on its own. A customized website, tailored to reflect your brand image is the perfect place for that.

3. SEO

Lastly, a website can help with SEO (search engine optimization). A well-designed website will show up in search results, whereas social media pages will not show up unless someone types in the name of the page. A website can display all of your platforms of marketing in one place, such as social media posts, news articles, blog posts, merchandise, email subscriptions, and more. When all of these are connected, your customers/clients can find what they need easily. With a little help from an SEO nerd like myself, your website will start to show up in search results online, where you may find customers from places you never expected!

I could continue talking on and on about why a website is so important for businesses, but I’m glad I could address these three important reasons today. Stay tuned to learn more about how you can get your business to push the boundaries of marketing!
